INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS



ABSTRACT SUBMISSION


In order to submit your abstract you will need to register first and access your Personal Account page by logging in with the e-mail and password chosen for your registration. Then, you can visit the "Abstract Submission” section of your Personal Account page.

Inform us if you are a PhD student or and Early Carrier Investigator (5 years or less from PhD title or equivalent) ticking the corresponding box.

*Abstract submissions in the "Other (Education, etc.)" topic category may include descriptions of novel educational approaches, innovative programs, pioneering technologies, etc. As with other abstract submissions, these abstract submissions must demonstrate the scientific method, i.e., describe the methodology and data collection, identify how to measure, analyze, and report outcomes, and provide conclusions. All submitted abstracts will be reviewed with the same criteria (see below).

ELEGIBILITY, DEADLINE, NOTIFICATION
  • Only one abstract per Attendee can be submitted.
  • Abstracts can be submitted for poster presentations only.
  • The Corresponding Author is also considered the Presenting Author.
  • Complete abstracts must be submitted by email in English no later than 13:00 U.S. US Eastern/19:00 Central European Time Zone on May 5, 2017. All abstract submissions must be complete and finalized before this time and date - NO EXCEPTIONS. The final abstract submission step is not complete until you have received an automatically-generated confirmation email.
  • The relevant Programme Committees will review the abstracts to check the coherence to the thematic topics of the Conference, Clarity, Originality and Novelty, Scientific Merit/Rigour, Appropriate Conclusions, and inform the Corresponding Author about the acceptance within 20 days from the date of submission.
  • The Registration must be finalised with the Payment of the Registration Fee within 7 days after notification of acceptance.
  • Submitting an abstract for poster presentation does not constitute a registration for the Conference. Registrations that are not finalized within the deadline will be considered withdrawn from the Programme and require a new submission.
  • Abstracts presented by PhD students and Early Carrier Investigators (five years or less from PhD or equivalent Academic title) and other eligible attendees may be considered for special awards (depending on the availability – criteria to be communicated in due time).
  • The Corresponding Author may be requested by the Conference Chair to present the submitted communication as an oral contribution.

ABSTRACT FORMAT REQUIREMENTS
Your abstract must be formatted using the standard template found in the button below. A model abstract is also provided.



We are asking each abstract to be 1 page only, single column, prepared according to the provided Template and submitted by registering and accessing the abstract section of your account page.

  • The abstract should be clear and informative. It should outline research goals, results and conclusions.
  • The Miller Conference encourages the presentation of new ideas and new research directions by active discussion of unpublished results in a “off of the record” atmosphere. For this reason, taking pictures or videos and recording audio during the sessions is not allowed, unless specifically authorized by the delegates. The Book of Abstracts will be made publically available and distributed among all the Participants, therefore it must not contain confidential information.



ORAL COMMUNICATIONS

  1. Presentation times
    • INVITED SPEAKERS: 30 min plus 10 min for discussion.
    • YOUNG INVESTIGATORS: 15 min plus 5 min for discussion.
    • CONCLUDING REMARKS BY THE CHAIRPERSON: 10 min.
  2. Presentation equipment
    • Computers with Window OS will be provided in the conference room.
    • Presentation slides should be provided as Powerpoint or PDF files
  3. Submitting the presentation file
    • All speakers are requested to upload the final version of their presentation during the coffee break preceding their session.
  4. Presentation
    • The speakers will be allowed to use their personal laptop, provided they have checked the compatibility with the operation system in advance of the session. They are also requested to bring the adapting connector.

POSTER COMMUNICATIONS


There will be two poster sessions. Paper scheduled for poster presentation will be allocated and numbered according to the topic they are dealing with. Poster boards are designed for DIN A0 in a portrait orientation (120 cm height and 90 cm width) Posters should be readable by viewers one meter away. The poster title, author(s)'s name(s) and institution(s) should appear at the top. The message should be clear and understandable without an oral explanation. The presenter’s name should be underlined. Each poster should be displayed on the assigned numbered board. Poster pins will be available at the conference desk.
